Youth Program
Dance Classes for Kids
Our Youth Program follows the school year, starting in September and running until June. We have an open house for parents in December, and a year-end recital in June – both are great chances for your dancer to have fun performing!
We also have dance exams in the spring, following the BATD syllabus, which is a wonderful way to track progress and feel a sense of accomplishment (students get certificates and medals).
We Offer Youth Classes in 8 Experience & Age Levels
Infant Dance
Youth 2 to 4 years old.
For these tiny dancers, we offer a ballet-based class that helps them meet development milestones, engage in communal learning, and find their own rhythm! 30 minutes.
Starlite Dance
Youth 4 to 6 years old.
For these young dancers, we offer both ballet and jazz classes, which give them playful learning opportunities, fun with friends, and a developing sense of technique and focus.
Primary (Pre-Bronze)
Youth 6 to 8 years old.
For these growing dancers, we offer ballet, tap, jazz, and highland dance classes, with a focus on gaining confidence, strength, and power - all in a fun and safe environment.
Grade 1 (Bronze)
Youth 8 to 10 years old.
For these exploring dancers, we offer ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, and highland dance classes, which are geared to increasing focus, fun, and vocabulary.
Garde 2 (Silver)
Youth 10 to 12 years old.
For these eager dancers, we offer ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, and highland dance classes, which provide a safe space for expression and artistry combined with technique.
Grade 3 (Gold)
Youth 12 to 14 years old.
For these young teen dancers, we offer ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, and highland dance classes, continuing our focus on technique and passion.
Grade 4 (Blue Riband)
Youth 14 to 16 years old.
For these teen dancers, we offer ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, and highland dance classes, as they start to mature into artists.
Grade 5 (British Medallion)
Youth 16 to 18 years old.
For these teen dancers about to become adults, we offer ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, and highland dance classes, as a bridge to their future adult dancing.
Frequently Asked Questions
>How much is a class?
Prices for each class vary depending on the length and number of classes in the year. They range from $300 to $600, which is split into four payments, due September 1, November 1, February 1, and April 1.
There is also a $20 administration fee (one per family). We accept debit, credit, cash, cheques, or e-transfers. No refunds will be given on fees paid.
> How can I pay?
Payment should be made before your class. We accept debit, credit, cash, cheques, or e-transfers to payment@dancefusionstudios.com. All passes are valid for 6 months, and are not refundable and non-transferable.
> What is BATD?
The British Association of Teachers of Dancing (BATD) was the first professional dance teacher’s association to be established in 1892. it is a global association that provides syllabi and exams in a variety of dance styles. Our teachers are qualified members of the association, and we use BATD syllabi as a way to help guide our safe and appropriate level progression.
> Is there a dress-code? What should my kid(s) wear?
Students must be in their dance uniform to participate in class, for safety and to foster a sense of team spirit and professionalism. They can mix and match any of these options for all our classes: blue bodysuit, skin-toned tights, blue skirt, black leggings, black shorts, DFS logo t-shirt. These must be purchased at the studio (except the shorts or leggings - any plain black will do).
> Do I need to buy dance shoes for my kid(s)
Yes - dance shoes are necessary for safety (so your dancer won’t slip), but your dancer can start classes in just socks or bare feet until they get shoes. We do sell shoes through the studio, both used and new!
> Do my kids have to take part of performances?
No, we’ll never make any dancer do what they’re not comfortable with. We do advocate for all of our youth dancers participating in the year-end recital, however, because it is such a great opportunity for confidence building, bonding with dance friends, and showing off all of their hard work.
